New age Technology

After researching many types of different technology and thinking of different ways to use them in the classroom I was a bit undecided over Blogging, Twitter or Edmodo. In class on Saturday Professor Kruse showed us some amazing examples of what Edmodo could do for us and all the "cool" aspects of it. This is a free website very student/teacher friendly. I would use this in my classroom to upload assignments for the day, if my class is paperless I can post assignments to Edmodo while in class and go to my desk and have the students sit and work on their laptops on the assignment posted on Edmodo.
In addition I can see form my computer the progress the student is making as they are working so in other sense I am looking over their shoulder as they work. If a student is struggling on a problem I will notice that right away and I can help the student that is struggling.
I can attach assignments on edmodo for the student to work at home. One thing I did find amazing is that there are not many schools from Des Moines on the edmodo sight. I think teachers would benefit from using this type of technology in their classrooms.

Technology in the classroom

educ#109 We were asked to find a blog that talks about using technology in the classroom and write some pros and cons about the blog. I found a blog created by Larry Cuban in which he "studied" a young girl that was given a laptop to use @ home and school and the effects it would have. http://larrycuban.wordpress.com/2010/09/16/shadowing-las-montanas-students-part-2/ In the first class he studies "Diane". The class takes place in the media center so all students have access to a laptop. On many occasions the students become off task and at one point the teacher asks thee diff. students to put their makeup bag away. Students begin to walk around the class, get out of their chairs and pack up early.
In this case I can see where having access to this tech. can be very distracting to students as it is easy to "hide" behind the laptops cover or start to doze off with the laptops blocking view of the teacher.
The second class where he follows "Diane" laptop use is not allowed and students are asked to take their notebooks out and take notes from the PowerPoint. Students are actively engaged until the bell rings or dismissal.
Pros of having the technology in the classroom based on this blog would be that in some instances , such as when Mr.Meister's room when the students are covering such a diverse topic such as Hitler and the Nazi's having laptops in class would allow for the students to gather more information on the subject rather than having just one source (PP). Although the teachers need to closely monitor students to ensure they stay on task.

okay so I have this new assignment for the week and there was so much covered in today's class, tagging, more info on blogging, google documents (which is pretty cool), and now we have this assignment to cover uncharted territory. I need to learn about some new techology...I will play with it and see what I think so now let's see if I can tag this the correct way and even with skill I might be able to post this to twitter..wish me luck!
